İsrail ordusunun önünde yürüyen Tanrının meleği yerini değiştirip arkaya geçti. Önlerindeki bulut sütunu da yerini değiştirip arkalarına, Mısır ve İsrail ordularının arasına geldi. Gece boyunca bulut bir yanı karartıyor, öbür yanı aydınlatıyordu. Bu yüzden, bütün gece iki taraf birbirine yaklaşamadı.
