Yoşiya krallığının sekizinci yılında, daha gençken, atası Davutun Tanrısına yönelmeye başladı. Krallığının on ikinci yılında da Yahuda ve Yeruşalimi puta tapılan yerlerden, Aşera putlarından, oyma ve dökme putlardan arındırmaya başladı.
